One checkout for every way customers choose to pay.

I redesigned Nomba Checkout as a modular payment surface for local methods, international cards, stablecoins, and loyalty rewards. The result gives merchants more ways to convert customers without making payment feel more complicated.

The context

The checkout worked well locally, but the customer base had moved beyond it.

Nomba Checkout is the payment experience merchants add to websites and apps. After a shopper places an order, method selection, payment, and confirmation all happen inside this focused flow.

The original product covered Nigeria's core payment methods. Merchants were now selling to diaspora customers with foreign cards, crypto-native buyers, and repeat customers who expected to be recognised for their loyalty.

The design challenge

Add more choice without adding more pressure.

Local rails could not serve every cross-border or crypto buyer.

Every new method competed for attention at the most sensitive step.

01 · Payment methods

One switcher, five familiar ways to pay.

Transfer, card, QR, installments, and USSD live behind one method switcher. The order summary stays fixed while the content below changes, so customers can compare options without losing context.

Every rail resolves into the same processing, success, and failure structure. This makes the experience easier to learn and gives the product a clear pattern for adding future payment methods.

02 · International cards

A card flow built for local and global buyers.

The card experience accepts both local and international cards inside the same trusted shell. Clear field grouping, visible security reassurance, and shared processing states help customers understand what is happening at each step.

Success confirms the transaction immediately. Failure states explain the reason and provide a path forward, so a declined payment does not become a dead end.

03 · Stablecoin payments

Crypto payments with the uncertainty removed.

Customers choose USDT or USDC, select a supported network, and see the conversion rate before committing. The checkout then provides a wallet address, the exact amount to send, and a clear payment window.

Processing explains that Nomba is checking the transaction. If payment cannot be confirmed, the customer can switch methods instead of abandoning the purchase.

04 · Checkout loyalty

Reward returning customers at the moment it matters.

Loyalty sits inside checkout instead of a separate rewards area. Returning customers can apply points to unlock a discount and see the updated total before they pay.

The interaction stays quiet for first-time shoppers while giving repeat customers a clear benefit for coming back.

Nomba Checkout now gives local, international, crypto, and returning customers a consistent way to complete payment. New rails fit into a shared structure, while merchants gain more ways to convert buyers without compromising speed or trust.
